Early in 2016 the School of Communication at the Royal College of Art were invited to design the screen content for Peter Gabriel and Sting’s ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ North American summer tour. The project sat within the Research Knowledge Exchange programme at the RCA.
Rock Paper Scissors brought together a team of staff and students from across the School’s programmes to create the visuals to run across fourteen large screens during performances in venues across Canada and the United States. Working as tutor, producer and creative director, Michaela guided the RCA students in their collaboration with Peter Gabriel and his production designer, Rob Sinclair and Sting’s long-time lighting designer and director, Danny Nolan to produce a dynamic moving image collection bound by the theme of the ‘zine’.
The resulting visual sequences combined abstract and figurative motifs with cut-and-paste graphics, collage and cutting-edge animation. The completed work premiered as Peter Gabriel and Sting launched their tour in Columbus, Ohio on the 21st June 2016.
