Sometimes an unexpected introduction opens the door to something extraordinary. In March 2025, a friend introduced me to German architect Max Becker, co-founder of Fundación Oasis Urbano in Moravia, Medéllín. After a brief conversation I was invited to be Artist-in-Residence at the 2nd Festival Internacional de Cine Comunitario de Moravia (FICCMoravia). What began as a simple invitation soon evolved into the creation of Laboratorio Fulldome, an intercultural artistic collaboration rooted in sustainability, community, and immersive storytelling.
Building on this initial introduction, a chance connection through the Fulldome Creative Network led me to Colombian fulldome filmmakers Juan Felipe Orozco and Daniela Carrascal of DoubleDome Films who also happened to be based in Medéllín. Working collectively with Max, DoubleDome Films and the team at Planetario de Medéllín we envisioned an ecologically focused 360° fulldome filmmaking workshop for Colombian artists. We were awarded a British Council Circular Cultures Grant to support the project.
Under the guidance of Michaela and Juan Felipe, Laboratorio Fulldome took place over three days in November 2025. A diverse group of Medellín artists gathered in Moravia to learn, experiment and explore ecological storytelling through 360° film. Together, they created Resiliencia, a five-minute fulldome film which recognised the strength, resilience and extraordinary solidarity of the community of Moravia. The film premiered in a public screening at the Planetario de Medéllín to an emotional audience response. Resiliencia embodied the history, determination, defiance and love that defines Moravia’s people. Community leader, Mama Chila reflected, she wished that all of those who had fought for Moravia could have seen their film because it was exactly what they had struggled to build.
Following the Laboratorio Fulldome workshop and their successful premiere screening the participating artist’s formed Collectivo Domista. This fulldome artist group are currently developing a new 360° film which they intend to screen at the Viva Inmersiva festival in Medéllin in November 2026.
