Observation

I am delighted this week by the arrival of my new digital camera. Its a beautiful thing and I am having a lovely time with it hanging around my neck. I am snapping enthusiastically as I move through my days. There are so many lovely things to see. And the new camera makes the process of observation all the more enjoyable. I am looking forward to spending summer improving my technique.

Successful Transit

Despite it’s somewhat tiny 60x60mm proportions, we are excited to report that the first French & Godbold Tiny Gift Card has successfully made it’s way through the Royal Mail postage system and arrived safely at it’s destination. The Tiny Gift Card envelope is outside the minimum “absolute limit” specified by Royal Mail. And yet they have done us proud and delivered regardless. Further international postage experiments will be undertaken shortly, stay tuned for further reports….

Reconnaissance

A busy time at F&G last week. At Progressive Greetings Live on Wednesday, we were inspired by the generosity of the traders in sharing their knowledge and experience of the greetings card industry. Thanks to Helen, Danny, Joanna and Alec for some great conversations. Since then, Richard has been out and about showing our portfolio, receiving positive feedback and some definite interest from local retailers. We spent Sunday walking the aisles of many London markets, looking for the one we liked the most for a regular F&G stall. Sunday Up Market in the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane is the winner. We had a great day with many beautiful things to see, delightful people to speak to and amazing food to sustain us along the way. Perfect.

Umbels

The umbel is a most pleasing blossom structure. Described as a flower consisting of many stalks which emanate from a single point rather like umbrella ribs. From the humble cow parsley (pictured above) to the delightful elderflower, the Hertfordshire hedgerows are currently awash with umbels. Floating cloud like on long stalks, creamy white in a sea of green. Beautiful.

100,000 Things in the Lounge Room

Suzy Almond, singer songwriter, launches the Lounge Room Tour.
Last weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the first gig on the current Suzy Almond tour schedule (thanks Clare & Jenny). The Lounge Room Tour is a low-key small format tour occurring in sitting rooms throughout Greater London. It was a delightful evening in a cosy Sydenham flat, with an intimate audience of 12 and Suzy’s alternative pop folk to keep us entertained. The evening culminated with a rousing sing-a-long which saw the crowd belting out a few old favourites such as Blue Moon and American Pie. We all left with happy hearts. Inspired by the sound of Suzy’s beautiful guitar, I have at long last re-tuned my cello.
